Welcome to Trailblaze Shirts!

Trailblaze Shirts was born out of a deep love for hiking - and a desire to wear something that actually reflects that love.

For us, hiking isn’t just a hobby. It’s how we reset. It’s how we explore. It’s how we stay present. We hike to stay healthy, but also to feel more connected - to nature, to each other, and to the world around us.

Like many hikers, we started with the basics: gear, boots, backpacks, and eventually, a growing pile of t-shirts. But after a while, we realized the shirts we were buying didn’t feel quite right. They were either too technical, too generic, or didn’t say anything about the way we actually experience the outdoors. We wanted shirts that were soft, comfortable, and designed with purpose - something we’d want to wear on the trail, around a campfire, or during a slow morning at home.

So we started designing our own. Simple, nature-inspired graphics. Thoughtful prints. Clean lines. Soft fabric. At first, it was just for us and a few friends. But soon, we saw that other hikers were looking for the same thing: shirts that felt good and said something real. That’s when Trailblaze Shirts became more than a side project. It became a small business with a clear mission - to make better hiking shirts, for people who love the trail as much as we do.

My name is Matthew, and I like hiking whenever I have a chance. Whether it’s a quick loop through the woods or a multi-day trek, hiking is how I recharge - and it’s my favorite way to connect with others. I love inviting people along, showing them new places, and learning together about the world around us.

How Our Designs Come to Life

We keep our eyes open—on the trail, on the commute, and when we’re out with friends. A crooked treeline at dawn, hills blanketed with wildflowers, a ridge line we can’t stop staring at, a landmark at golden hour—these moments spark our tees. And yes, everyday situations like watching TV, grabbing dinner at a restaurant, or catching a train can sometimes trigger new ideas.

When something clicks, we capture it: a quick photo, a note on the phone, a pencil sketch. Back at the studio, we turn those sparks into a list and shape each one—what’s the mood (playful, bold, nostalgic)? what style fits (clean line art, vintage badge, topo texture)? what’s the simplest way to make it feel trail-true?

We also keep a pulse on the web—new articles, posts, and everyday photos from hikers everywhere. We don’t copy; we get inspired. Those fresh viewpoints often nudge a concept in a new direction, and we build our own take from the ground up.

Finally, we move from pencil to pixels—refining sketches with our design tools, testing placements on real tees, and printing samples. If it looks great in a mockup but not on a morning hike, we keep iterating until it earns a spot in the Trailblaze lineup.
